Minimal prep veneers involve almost exactly the same steps and visits involved with having porcelain veneers placed – the only difference being the amount of tooth structure that is removed before placing the veneer.

With no prep veneers, Dr. Barnett barely removes any part of your tooth, and most people do not need any kind of anesthesia! Also, in most cases, patients do not need to have temporaries placed like with standard porcelain veneers or crowns.

The choice of using No prep veneers is dependent upon the particular situation in your mouth.  Everyone learned in high school science that two things can’t occupy the same space at the same time.  We’ve all seen examples of people whose teeth look too big for their face.  Many times this is because not enough tooth structure has been removed to make space for the porcelain.  For those whose teeth are very small or have lots of spaces between them, no prep veneers may be a great option because the porcelain is used to actually accomplish the goal of creating bigger teeth and fuller smile.  If your teeth are already large or crowded, no prep may not be the best choice to accomplish your cosmetic goals.
